Why We Exist

Humanity is in the midst of a historic displacement. While only 3.6% of people live outside their country of birth, that small share includes many of the world’s most vulnerable cultures, communities that have declined by as much as 90% in a single generation. Project Diaspora Expeditions brings travelers to the frontlines of this shift, to meet both those who stay and those who leave, and to encounter communities in their final generation before they disappear.
